Cookie popup
Multiple countries have introduced regulations on how companies collect and share their customer's data. This requires some website in some regions to get permission from their users in order to use cookies.
Shopify has a feature to limit tracking until permission is granted, it's called the consent tracking API. The cookies popup introduced in version 2.0 uses the Shopify consent tracking API to get permission from users using a cookies popup. The cookies popup uses some features from the theme and some features from Shopify, so there are settings in both the theme and the store admin area that will affect this feature.
Enable Cookies Popup
For the cookies popup to work, you will need to enable the privacy settings for your online store.
- From your left-hand sidebar in the backend of Shopify, choose "Online store" > "Preferences"
- Scroll down to the "Customer privacy" heading
- Enable both checkboxes for GDPR and CCPA
The second step is to enable the actual cookie popup so customers can accept it.
- From your left-hand sidebar in the backend of Shopify, choose "Online store"
- Choose your theme and click "Customize"
- In the left-hand sidebar, scroll to the bottom of your settings and choose "Popup"
- Click "Add content" and choose "Cookie consent"
That's it! Your cookie popup is configured.
